This seems to be an epidemic. All over the world, People are reporting their PS3s going down with the dreaded yellow light of death. Yet Sony tells all of these customers that it's either THEIR fault
for installing an automated update wrong ( how is that even possible?) or it's just because their system was "old". Even people with brand new PS3s.
So, if you are one of the lucky ones that's still in warranty, congratulations! You get a brand new refurbished piece of hardware. And all of your game saves lost.
For those of you that have an older one like me, there's either the choice of paying Sony $150 to repair it, which also means losing all your save-games, or do it yourself. A friend referred me to the following guide. Maybe it'll work for you too!
