Addendum for post "Your Computer is not an Appliance!"

I forgot one major thing from this post:
BACK UP EVERYTHING!

This is for all operating systems!
It gets old, working on someone's computer;
"Your hard drive failed. I had to replace it."
"Did you save my pictures?"
"If your hard drive fails, I can't. You should have backed them up."

External hard drives are cheap nowadays. At Wal-Mart, you can get them for next to nothing. Especially if you figure in the cost of data recovery services. And it is no harder to save your stuff to the external than it is to save them to the default "My Documents" location.
Yes, I know you never have to back up your refrigerator, but YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT AN APPLIANCE! That is all.
